The Importance of Grounding
GROUNDING MEANS TO PREVENT FROM FLYING!
Written by Susanne Murphy, Colour Energy Expert
Symbolically, when you are ungrounded it means to run away, flee or to escape from. In the colour language it suggests that you are weak in your root chakra and your red intelligence. In the language of the body it means that you are not connected to life and matters relating to the real world.
According to our Colour Energy stats approximately 20% of North Americans function adequately in their Root Chakra, with only 2% using their Red Energy as their main Colour Intelligence. On the flipside, 98% of people tend to exist in their other six Intelligence Centres with minimal connection to their Root Chakra (represented as the lowest and weakest).
Yet, the Root is your grounding cord that feeds your body’s life force. The Red Intelligence governs your reality and motivations. It is your physical link between your spirit and your body. Think of roots anchoring the tree to the earth, but reaching for the sky, the stars, the universe and our light source.
When you are ungrounded you give off and receive electrical shocks and have difficulties around electronics. It is important to be grounded as when you are insufficiently earthed, it can cause electrical disturbances to the whole. Too many electrical currents can cause interference with nervous control and neurological consequences that include flightiness, behav- ioural changes and even loss of consciousness (even if you believe you are conscious others will see differently).
Nowadays, with all the EMF pollution it puts excess stress on your personal electrical matrix, both inner and outer. Being ungrounded is a worldwide epidemic; and is so entrenched few of us even recognize the problem. Grounding rituals should be part of your everyday life.
Signs of Being Ungrounded
You are ungrounded if you:
- Get distracted easily
- Zone out, where others consider you spacey
- Overthink or ruminate (over contemplate or meditate)
- You finish other people’s sentences, before they do
- Engage in personal drama
- Experience anxiety and perpetual worrying
- Are unrealistic or refuse to take responsibility for your actions
- Obsessed to have material things, or have additions
- Easily deceived by yourself or others
- Preoccupied with your personal image
- Forget to eat or go to the bathroom (until it’s urgent)
- Give off or receive shocks or have static electricity hair
- Electrical devices fail you quickly (watches, computers, etc.)
Physical signs of being ungrounded include:
- Inflammation or yeast infections
- Poor sleep or sleeping excessively
- Chronic pain, migraines or headaches
- Fatigue, lack or vitality
- Poor circulation (cold hands and feet)
Being ungrounded is the root cause of a great deal of human suffering. When ungrounded your imagination can prevent you from living a balanced life and cause you to feel alienated from people and reality. FYI, You were put on this planet to live a spiritual life in a physical body – be grounded and live life fully!
Grounding Has Proven To Help:
- Reduce inflammation
- Improve immune response
- Alleviate emotional stress
- Improve blood flow
- Elevate mood and feelings of general wellbeing!
The ultimate benefits of grounding will come from the experience itself. Although research is finding that grounding can help improve your body, mind and spirit wellness, if you experiment with the following grounding techniques then you can evaluate the results for yourself.
Ways To Ground
The first part of grounding is to get rooted in your physical body. Grounding is a similar concept to centring. The Centre is expansive, as it includes the totality of your body, mind, emotions and spirit.
Once you learn how to ground yourself, it’s easier to find your Centre. Grounding techniques are designed to redistribute the energy from your head or mind into your body. Doing so has an almost instant calming effect.
Food & Nutrition: Protein and red foods are physically grounding. Kick start your day with some good protein. When you are hungry eat some nuts (wash or soak your nuts before eating them to remove any bacterial and to remove the enzyme inhibitor that hibernates the nut).
Enhance your diet with macro and micro minerals (including trace elements). Micro minerals are a catalyst for the proper absorption of water into your cells. Lack of micro minerals can be a contributing factor to dehydration both physically and mentally. Andean salts contain over 84 essential minerals.
Water: Drink adequate water daily. Water is a quick grounding element and water is essential for your life force. Water mixed with minerals creates the electrical charge that your body needs to operate. Enjoy a salt bath or a swim in the sea.
Salt Therapy: Take salt baths or a dip in the ocean. Further empower a hydropathy salt treatment using essential oils and even a red Colour Bath®. Loaded with essential minerals, salt water is alkalizing and replenishes lost minerals, making it a very powerful healing treatment for the body, mind & soul!
Red Colour Bath: This colour is the most grounding and puts you back into connection with your physical body and world! Add the grounding red vibrational oils such as Palo Santo, Sandalwood or Juniper (choose the oil that matches your intention at the moment).
Essential Oils: Benzoin, Black Pepper, Black Spruce, Clove, Juniper, Red Mandarin, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Ylang Ylang.
Aura Cleanser: This powerful alchemy essence spray will help to eliminate any invisible “junk” in your aura that could be hindering your ability to feel safe and grounded. Aura Cleanser helps to rebalance your polarity and yin/yang energies.
Magnesium: Spray CE’s magnesium spray over your head or on the soles of your feet to instantly ground your energy. On a nutritional level you can supplement with a tablet daily.
Heavenly Scent Diffuser: This unique diffuser is ultrasonic, which charges your body with negative ions. Combine with a few grains of sea salts and aromatherapy... and then with every breath treat your body, mind & soul with positive charges.
Grounding Mat: Is a direct physical connection to the earth. This method of grounding limits the build-up of static electricity in your body and can prevent damage to your brain cells.
Natural Earthing: Ground yourself in nature by enjoying the outdoors and digging your feet into the earth. Put your feet in a sandbox or in the water element such as a babbling brook, a waterfall or in the sandy shores of the ocean. Other methods include placing your arms around a big beautiful tree or lying on the grass and feeling the earth beneath you.
The Tree Stand or Pose: Stand with your feet parallel and at least shoulder’s width apart. Keep your head erect and spine straight. Rest your hands at your side or place them over your belly. Sink all of your body’s weight and tension into your feet (without collapsing your posture), allowing it to be absorbed into the ground (or do the Tree Pose). To support this grounding process, add on the following visualize exercise.
Visualization: Envision the soles of your feet growing roots that expand into the centre of the earth. Feel the earth’s energy running through your core. Imagine this invisible power cord anchoring your body to the ground so you can reach for the stars!
Grounding Grid: The placement of gemstones on your body, or onto a crystal grid, in certain geometric formations will help to strengthen your own internal grid as the crystals empower your vitality through your energy matrix.
Gemstones: Put a stone in your pocket, drinking glass or use on a crystal grid. Gemstones on or around your person are invaluable in helping you to stay grounded. Stones that work best are black or red in hue such as: Black Onyx, Black Tourmaline, Bloodstone, Hematite, Red Garnet, Red Jasper, Jet, Obsidian, Petrified Wood, Ruby, Shungite, Smokey Quartz and Red Tiger’s Eye. Shungite is also great to protect your body from harmful EMFs and other toxic matter.
Cover Your Crown Chakra: Feelings of ungroundedness can come from your crown chakra being too wide open. Place your hand on top of your head for 1-2 minutes. Envision that your crown chakra is protected and that you are rooted. If you are naturally high in your Indigo and Violet Intelligence centres you can also wear a red hat for additional support.
Feel Your Feet: Apply pressure to the soles of your feet. As well, you can use red oils mixed with a carrier and massage into your feet, place all of your awareness on the bottom of your feet for 1-2 minutes.
Breathwork: Close your eyes and as you inhale, trace the air as it enters your nose and passes through your lungs into your duodenum. Feel your belly fill with air. On the exhale, follow the air leaving your lungs and exiting through your nose. The key is to observe your breath instead of forcing it with your mind. Let your body lead and your mind follow. Repeat several times or for 2-3 minutes.
Coloured Clothing: Wear earth tone colours that are in the hues of red, orange, yellow and green. Red slippers or shoes, red pants or dress will help ground you throughout the day and give you more vitality, inner strength and confidence.
Other Grounding Techniques: Mindful walking, rolling like a cat, stretching like a dog, yoga, Tai Chi, drinking a cup of hot chai tea and anything else that makes you feel grounded!
Grounding Elements
You can also ground with the different elements:
- Element of Water – Go spend some time near the ocean or a natural body of water.
- Element of Fire – Light a candle, enjoy your fireplace or sit by the campfire.
- Element of Earth – This can be done by earthing, burning sage (herbs) and using gemstones.
- Element of Air – Do breathwork or enjoy the fresh air outside, and feel the wind on your face.
Sacred Geometry, Etc.
Shapes, symbolisms and colours add to any grounding ritual. Try adding different elements to your treatments.
The Square: The square is a plane figure with four equal straight sides and four right angles. This shape is symbolic of the root chakra and our connection to being grounded.
The Red Colour & Our Root Chakra: Red is the intelligence centre that governs our root chakra. Red energizes this centre and when in balance is healthy, strong, stable and grounded.
